Trend study 2021: Artificial Intelligence and the future of artificial intelligence in German companies.

HSE Occupational

A current studythe IU International University by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kerzel, Professor of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence at the IUBH, shows that companies in Germany have fundamentally recognized the increasing importance of artificial intelligence. 43 percent of those surveyed already see AI as important today. 62 percent believe in the importance of AI for the future.

Let's compare the theses:

The relevance of AI in companies is increasing: The relevance of artificial intelligence in companies is high. About 43% of respondents say they believe the use of AI is important at this time. This number rises to over 60% when it comes to future relevance.
The implementation of AI is far from complete: AI has so far been a strategic management topic.More than 70% of those surveyed in management positions say that their company is already specifically dealing with AI. BUT: Only 17.9% of those surveyed say that their company has all the necessary skills in the AI area. In addition, there is currently a lack of willingness to invest and know-how in implementation.
There is a lack of knowledge – and skills: over two thirds of employees say they do not have the necessary knowledge. Nevertheless, less than a third are prepared to acquire the necessary skills. One in five people think that there is a lack of further training courses on the subject of AI. And for this reason alone, upskilling is difficult.
Employees have predominantly positive expectations: only 2.9% of those surveyed believe that too much AI is used in their company. Over three quarters of those surveyed have few worries or concerns that their job will be replaced by AI or will be eliminated completely.
The potential is far from being exhausted: companies have so far had a rather short-term view of AI. The growth potential is not yet fully recognized. Only 14.3% are already using AI. 47.5% of all respondents stated that they had not yet dealt with the topic of AI in their company.

Without digital upskilling of all employees in the next few years, neither the potential will be exploited nor the uncertainty in dealing with them will be eliminated and the same applies tomorrow - companies do not change people, people change companies.(c)AI is only changing part of how people work. And don't forget, at least today, any AI is only as good as your trainer.
